County Carlow (Contae Cheatharlach in Irish) is a county of the Republic of Ireland located towards the south east of Ireland, in the province of Leinster. It has an overall population of just over 50,000, as of April 2006. The town of Carlow, built on the River Barrow, has a population of 17,880 (2002 Census).
