County Sligo (Irish: Contae Shligigh) is a county in the province of Connacht in the west of the Republic of Ireland. Area: 1,836 kmē (709 square miles). The name Sligeach means "an area abounding in shells". Sligo is bordered to the west by Mayo, to the south by Roscommon, and the east by Leitrim.
